I have episodes that i describe as when you are drifting off to sleep but catch yourself. It is very quick and getting more frquent. It started in october 07.All blood work normal. EKG abnormal. The cardiologist said i have a hole betwwen the two atriums, atrial septal disorder, the 30 day heart moniter came back normal and the neurologist did an EEG, came back abnormal the nurse said i was having small seizures coming from left temple, to get a better look i wore a 24 hr EEG that came back normal, my appt is May 19th. New symptoms since this started are now have numbness in my hands, mostly left hand, I feel i dont have hand to mouth coordination with left hand. My head sometimes shakes no lightly, chest discomfort, forgetful, slow thinking, very tired, more like my brain is exhasted not my body. I usually get a small cold 1-2 times a year. In the last 6 mths ive had 4 colds and for the first time ever pneumonia. Blood pressure is higher than normal. Does any of this go together as any disorder, what questions should i ask the neurologist?

Hi there.

During your meeting with your neurologist, I suggest that you discuss with him if these new symptoms can be explained by your previous EEG findings.  If these cannot be fully explained by this, then you have to be worked up for other causes.  Other possible causes that I can think of include micronutrient deficiency (like vitamin B12 or other B vitamins), blood pressure complications, progression of your atrial septal defect and compounded with some form of anxiety or depression which could heighten one's perception of these events.  I suggest you have this evaluated by your neurologist and probably discuss some of the conditions I mentioned.

Regards and I hope you and your doctors can get to the bottom of this soon.  God bless.
