Hi there.

This condition can indeed be very hard to diagnose if there are no other symptoms accompanying the event.  Other possibilities that I can think of includes a primary neuropathy that affects the nerve supplying the tongue, or a possible demyelinating condition such as an early sign of multiple sclerosis.  The metal braces would really preclude an MRI examination.  An MRI would help us rule in or rule out the other possible diagnoses.  I suggest you discuss with your doctors regarding these other possibilities and so that you can advised on the proper course of treatment.

I hope they can get to the real cause of this soon. Regards.

I have had MRI, EMG, spinal tap, I am just waiting to get my braces off so I can get another MRI done to see in the spot the Doctor's need to see. My speech seems to be affected, swallowing, I wake up at night chocking sometimes. But I don't know if it's just me or something going on? The mind plays tricks on you if you think about it alot I think is it a symptom or just me? It's the not knowing that's hard. I am fine with what ever it is or not. Thanks  8^ )
