What can I expect from the Nuerologist

by bayareagal, May 13, 2008 04:25PM
I have been feeling off balance for the past several months.  This is a constant feeling and I am not dizzy at all or light headed, just more like I am walking crooked or veering even though I am not.  It is accompnaied by a sort of "out-of-it" feeling.  I have seen my rpimary care doctor several times, was referred to an ENT and did an audiology and Vestibular Video Testing.  All of those test came back normal.  The ENT says I need ot see a nuerologist now.  I am so scared that I have some grave disease now or a brain tumor.  What can I expect from the nueorlogist visit?

Hi there.

I understand your worries. A consultation with a neurologist may indeed be warranted.  Your neurologist will be able to perform a thorough neurologic evaluation and neurologic physical examination.  Based on these examinations, the neurologist may be able to localize a possible problem whether in the brain or the spine.  From here, he or she may request imaging studies like a brain scan or MRI, that would confirm or reinforce anything that she suspects.  At this point, it is very early to jump to conclusions.  I hope that your meeting with the neurologist will be fruitful and that everything will turn out OK.

Regards.
