Heart palpitations since I was 8 years old & still...

by ChristinaK66, May 14, 2008 02:40AM
First time I felt heart palpitations, I was 8 years old, as a little girl I get scared. Mom made me necessary blood tests, echography, etc... Everything was normal.

After that, I used to feel it from time to time, but not for a long duration...

Now, I am 23 years old, the heart palpitations are increasing, especially before my period, I went to the hospital from 7 months ago, for 3 days full body exams, because the heart palpitations didn't stopped for 4 days, even at night when I am sleeping which bothered me soo much & I couldn't take it anymore. Normally, when I walk or being active those beats disappear! & I only feel it in rest or in light activities. How strange!

All my blood tests & exams are perfectly normal! I saw two doctors, & both told me the same: STRESS!!!! & they told me to take "CONCOR 5mg" (half pill per day or 2.5 mg), even I don't have "tachycardia", but sometimes I do feel "tachycardia"...

How come when I was 8 years old I feel stress?
Actually I don't feel stress & I keep feeling the palpitations....

I am an atheltic women, I drink plenty of water (3 Liters/day), I eat healthy food, & I don't suffer from any disease...
I don't smoke, my alcohol intake is occasionaly, i don't drink coffee neither Soda, neither energy drinks...

Could you please tell me what is wrong & why do I feel those palpitations even all my exams are perfectly normal & I am healthy?????

N.B: (The thyroide is normal also)

Thank you for your answer  :)

Sorry you've had to deal with palpitations for so long.

I believe I had pvcs when I was a little girl also but never had any tests.

I don't remember feeling any strange heart sensations, but when I took a nap with my sister, she would always say "stop shaking the bed", I never knew what she was talking about. Now thinking back I think it was the pvcs, because boy I sure can feel some of them now and it looks like my chest is shaking.

At age 18 I think I started to feel them as you do. Went to a doctor and they just said heart murmur. Then began my slide into ever increasing anxiety. At age 30 I had a 24 hr holter monitor and it showed approx. 10,000pvcs/day. At age 42 I had a 48hr holter and it showed ave of 24,000pvc/day. My point being that even while the frequency has increased, I've had them it seems forever.

Stress is a factor, but it's not the only one. I've been good in health like you, eat well, avoid triggers like caffiene but the pvcs just keep coming. The doctors still say the same thing for the last 27 years, benign, benign, benign. I'm so sick of hearing it, but I guess I have to accept it.

Apparently there isn't anything "WRONG" with our hearts, they are just more sensitive to some things like adrenaline, or it could be that we have additional electrical pathways. But that isn't considered "wrong" in the sense that it can be corrected easily. A variant of normal you could say. So, if it's pvcs or pacs, it's not considered life threatening but it sure can be life changing if you let them get the better of you.
