Is it worth it?

by Xena04, May 14, 2008 05:39AM
Coming up on third Avastin+taxotere toxic assault. For the first time in this four year journey, I am questioning if the cost is worth the results.  Not sure which one of the two is the problem, but having this combo every three weeks means pretty much zero quality of life.  No energy the whole time, no appetite, neuropathy worse and now seem to be losing the ability to taste anything.  Before, when I was on taxotere every six weeks with gemzar and carboplatin in between, I at least had a few good weeks.  Still working full time, but that is about all I can manage.  My oncologist offered last visit to give me an 8-10 week break, (I have been on one regimen or another, with overall great response according to tests, since February of '07), and I am wondering what that would mean as far as the cancer getting ahead of me or in me being able to regain a little strength and physical condition.  Any ideas?

I guess it depends on how aggressive your cancer is, but if your onc is willing to give you a break, he/she must think it won't let the cancer get away from you. I don't know what supplements you are allowed during chemo, but my mother takes an energy drink supplement called corvalen that seems to give her energy. I think it has ribose or some such in it. Good luck with whatever you decide.
