20 years old..lump in left breast under nipple

I think this is probably filed under the wrong topic, feel free to yell at me..sorryyyy...
Ok..I am a 20 year old female...I have an extreme family history of Breast Cancer..on both side..infact, when my mother turned 40 she found out she had breast cancer.. so i was told by my OBGYN to start mammograms at 30...*hooray*..i was free from the boob squisher for 10 years...
until i was doing a bse...and found a freaking lump....under my nipple towards the left kind of....in my left breast.....
great...i was hysterical..and asked my dear mother, (she's a survior for 8 years! =] go momma!)...anywhoo.she got worried and didnt want to help me by feeling it...ha...i dont blame her...and told me to call my doctor..
but me being the internet nerd i am...wanted to do research 1st....1st of all i did my bse a week before my period..because i screwed up my birth control and my period went hay wire this month!(but hey at least its here and i wont be a mommy, yet!)....ok...period is on the end tail of being over..and i can still feel this weird little lump...probably the size of a marble..same consistency...but since my period isnt over, should i wait a few more days until i call my dr???..
please don't yell @ me for not going already..my own mother(who had stage 3 cancer, a double masectomy, and dealt with this **** for many years) already told me to wait it out until the period was over..but i wanted to ask others...
any isight? thanks for reading my "novel" =]
