Swollen throat

by Libuse, May 14, 2008 04:58PM
I just wanted to ask someone about my problem. About two month ago I was cleaning tool shed and there was lots of dust and mice infestetion. As I was sweeping it I must have breathed some in. Since then this is two months I have had problem with swollen uvula in the throat, hoarsness and some wheezing on exhale, also swollen glands in the neck and burning pain in the neck area. I also have itchy forehead, with little rash. I am tired and worn out most of the time. Could this be some allergy or virus? I went to ENT today and he never said much, only that he wants me to have allergy tests done. It bothers me a lot lately!

Hi Libuse

Looks like a bad case of allergy. Allergy tests is a good idea. Have you tried any medications like antihistaminics/anti allergics/ antibiotics? If not, you should start something under guidance from your doctor, maybe once you have taken the tests.

Meanwhile warm saline gargles, warm lemonade, and ginger honey tea should help soothe the throat.

Lets know about your tests.

Best

Hi,

Do you have associated symptoms of fever, breathlessness, sinusitis or rhinitis? Is there any past or family history of allergic reactions? Do you have any symptoms of reflux, heartburn or GERD?

Have you tried any medications for your symptoms as yet? Have any investigations been done? It would be advisable to get a chest xray done.

You need to consult your doctor for a proper clinical evaluation and to rule out sinusitis, rhinitis, pharyngitis, asthma and any allergies as the cause of your symptoms.

Till then you could try warm saline gargles, steam inhalation, oral antihistamine medications like cetrizine or loratadine and see if it helps with your symptoms.

Let us know if you have any other doubts and post us about how you are doing.

Regards.
