Painful PVC

by Rick945, May 14, 2008 06:01PM
I am an old man who has been very activite all of his life. A number of years ago I was told I had a PVC.  In the beginning it was just an extra heart beat but over the years it has become painful but infrequent.  About two weeks ago everytime I do a hard work out the PVCs or what I think are PVCs occur more frequently and they are painful to the point where I think I am having a heart attack.  But when I stop working out the PVCs stop and I have a normal day.  I was just working in my shop doing some hard physical work had two PVCs in a row and am now feeling quite put out. Hense the question.

The question is what could have happened that would increase these painful workouts.

P.S. I am in excellent physical condition for my age.

Your not a old man. Because that would make me and old lady LOL. Anytime you are having pain you need to get checked out by a Dr. They can do various types of  stress tests, and find out if the pain is something to worry about. I get pains with my PVC's,I don't have any blockages and the Dr's say my heart is structurally normal. I take inderal at a very low dosage, it helps with the sharp PVC pain. I take advil when I have long runs of PVC's for the chest wall pain.

The old man was a spelling error.  It was meant to say older.  As in I'm not 20 anymore or even 50.  I have been checked out many times and with the same result.  I was looking for some info as to why these things change.  Not many people can speak to this subject and that includes Drs.  For most people are there bouts that come and go or do they just get stronger to the point where one has to take medicine to keep ones heart from poping out of ones chest. I will look into inderal. Is that prescribed by your doctor.

If you check out OK, it is an enigma that plagues not only us who suffer from PVC's, but also the Dr's . I had to, by trail and error find a med, and sometime a combo of meds that works for me. The PVC's have affected me to where I gave up things that were very dear to me . Activites, that defined me. I have had to adapt to my new circumstance's.
I take inderal, fast acting , when I need it, and a very low dose. Being on beta blockers 24 7 didn't work for me. Good luck

Would love to tell you what the cause of their changing frequency or intensity was all about.  But, like you said, even the Dr's don't know.  There are very few studies about this, because PVC's are usually benign and therefore do not rank very high on the research scale (or funding scale).

Many of us can share with you some of the things that SEEM to increase the numbers, but sometimes they just hit you like a load of bricks and months later, while doing the EXACT SAME THINGS they might not show up at all.

Lack of sleep, hormones, infection, stress and caffeine intake cause mine to act up.  But of those the number one affector is lack of sleep.

Sorry there isn't more to say...they are just flightly little things!!!!
