false-positive results?

by dcsss, May 14, 2008 06:06PM
I tested positive for chlamydia about a month ago during a regular pap smear screening.  Right away I contacted my current partner, and also my past partner, from whom I assumed I may have contracted it.  They were both tested right away, and my current partner started medications shorthly after his screening.  However, both of their tests have come back negative, and my past partner was re-tested to be sure.  Is it likely that I have experienced a false-positive result?  Does this fiasco even make sense?  I have only had three partners, the two mentioned aboved included.  The third was years ago, before the latter, and he and I always used condoms, but this was my first pap smear.  What is going on here?

You could have had a positive test.  If you've taken meds, though, you'll never really know for sure.

would you consider it likely, though?

To help you with this question, please find out what test was used for your and your partner`s testing,  Ask them to give you specific information about the test.

Hi, i am in the same situation, and i feel like i am going mad. I am awaiting a second test result to find out if its a false positive. Have you found anything out yet? I would appreciate help too...this really sucks i know...

nope, i haven't had any type of medical confirmation that it was a false-positive; once i realized that it may have been one, i had already finished the medication.  i have basically gone off of my own instincts and input from my partner and best-friend tat this was the case.  we've concluded that a false-positive is the only thing that it could have been... my partners and i have had sex numerous times, both  were long term, committed relationships, it just seems illogical that they BOTH could be so immune to an std that after plenty of sex they still could not have contracted it.  i was given the genoprobe test, i'm still searching for its accuracy. is that the same test you were provided?

Hey, my test was a false positive. I have just rang the lab and abused the **** out of them. This has turned ourlives inside out, but i, just like you, trusted my instincts. I will never trust these tests ever again. My husbands test came back negative, and my second test before medication came back negative too....not happy! Trust your instincts. My test was a urine test using the NAAT testing procedure...how's this...its meant to be THE most accurate available...what a load of ****...i hope this helps you realise that these tests can be wrong, and i hope you work through this time of stress. I am feeling for you...

I'm glad you are negative, but remember that no test is 100% accurate.
