Does this sound like a reasonable explanation for flashes?

by t2oo5, May 14, 2008 10:00PM
I have been experiencing eye flashes. I went to see my optometrist today, who said my retinas were perfectly normal. For a second opinion, she called in the retinal specialist of the practice (an MD) to doublecheck, whom also said my retinas are perfectly fine.
The explanation he gave me after a thorough look at my retinas was that my uncorrected vision was causing the flashes. I have a prescription of -0.50 in my right eye and -1.00 in my left eye (where the flashes were), however, I don't currently wear glasses or contacts, I was just putting up with it. He said something about how my eyes were constantly trying to focus and refocus, and something about a ciliary body, and that if I get glasses it should go away.
Does this sound reasonable? I never heard of anything like this?
Thanks

No it doesn't sound reasonable to me. If you want glasses to see better that's fine but glasses to get rid of flashes doesn't wash.

Have another exam from an eye MD. Ophthalmologist. Forget the optometrist for checking eyes. I don't know who told you about the refocusing but you need a focused exam, with an MD..
