Flat Warts

Hi! I've been to a dermatologist and I got my biopse done, and they told me I have flat warts (on my face), I don't have a big quantity but I can notice that every month a new one comes out. They told me to treat them with a medication called Aldara, but it is very expensive, so I bought a generic medication from India, which is called Imiquad manufactured by Glenmark Pharmaceuticals. I am using it 3x a week. I know the treatment is slow and that I am not going to have fast results at all. But my concern is, is there any way to prevent new warts from coming out? Is this the best treatment, even being a generic? What do you think about Retinoic Acids? Which one is faster and better? Thank you very much for your help!!!!

Hi,

The mainstay for wart therapy are the keratolytics such as salicyclic acid. They may be available in solutions or plasters  and they may be readily bought over the counter.

Warts do have various classifications and treatment varies depending on the type of wart. Flat warts may be treated using liquid nitrogen therapy and topical retinoic acid gel may also be helpful. However, it is important to note that these medications may be abrasive and they have their side effects. Never apply any cream or medications on the affected area without informing your physician about this.

There is really no single effective medication for warts. It is important however, that you follow your physician's advice. Combined therapy  is usually needed.
