Hello,

I think what you mean to say is what is the cervix and what does it do?  In plain language the cervix is a conical shaped passageway that connects the uterus to the vagina. The cervix is about 3-4cm long.

The cervix allows the passage of a baby from the uterus to the vagina during childbirth. The cervical opening widens, called dilation.

Since you obviously have online access, to learn more about the cervix and female genital anatomy I suggest you go to Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cervix)  to read the description and look at the images.

Best regards,

Dr. Downing
