pre pregnancy murmurs

by kristy3801, May 15, 2008 04:39PM
i am 25 years old and  is currently considering getting pregnant soon. 7 years ago, i was diagnosed with a heart murmur. my doctor told me it was innocent and didnt require any medication. it has never limited my activity in anyway. i was wondering if there are any major concerns or problems that i should be aware of before becoming pregnant.

This discussion is related to Heart murmur and pregnancy?.

you need to discuss this with your gp further but i saw a documentary on tv about this, when your preg it does put pressure on the heart for everyone and most people get slight palpations its caused by the increased blood flow in your body this is very harmless, but the woman on the documentary had a heart murmour and managed to carry the baby to 36 weeks before it put too much pressure on her heart.(at this stage baby is fully developed but maybe small) i think her heart murmour might have been slightly more severe, so it just goes to show the chances of their being any implications with pregnancy whilst having a heart condition are small but definatly discuss it with your doctor before and start taking folic acid to prepare your body, the first few weeks can make all the difference to how your baby will develop. hope this gives you some peace of mind.good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
