my son is 9yrs,he has had glue ear since a baby, his ear drums upon check ups tend to either be bulging, retracted or perforated. we have been told that the ear drum changes shape dependent upon the prescence of glue behind the ear drum or whether his eustatian tubes are blocked. He has never had any surgery for his hearing loss as he wears hearing aids. however he has had surgery to remove 2 absesses which did cause him to complain of ear pain as well as his mouth hurting before the absesses were removed, the surgeon told us that was because they were pressing on nerves in his jaw.
