displaced 1st metarsal

Hi
I had a trolley with 75 kgs of shingle land on my foot in a garden centre on the 4th of May had a plate put into my foot as the Dr said I have a displaced 1st metatarsal fracture and dropped arch due to the trauma. I am non weight bearing in a cast with crutches for how long I am unsure? I just wanted to ask if anyone knows if the plate will need to be removed at some point? The chances of a complete recovery and roughly time scales?
The Doc didn't se me after surgery so I have been unable to ask him these questions and I am not seeing him until next wednesday?
