Overnight Amnesia

by Stevans, May 16, 2008 07:09AM
Dear Doctor

I have a friend and collegue, female 34, who seemingly had overnight amnesia.
She woke up on 05 May 2008 crying, thinking her gran had just passed away. Her Gran passed in 2006, from this we deduce that she's lost two years more or less. She cannot remember anything, except the birth of her son, only in her mind he was born in 2005, and not 2007. She started working at a new company in 2007 aswell, but cannot remember any of her collegues or what her job entailed. She did not remember being married either. As far as I know she suffered from depression after her son was born, and was on meds for that, although it seemingly lasted only 2months. Her job is very stressfull, and she's been ill with severe lower backache and flu for a long period of time, +/- 4 months. She is somewhat overweight. I'm not sure if any if this information will help, but I'm hoping that somehow you could give some sort of knowledge that it's not permanent. She is in a psychiatric facility, but they don't have any answers either.
What could have caused this? How can we help to fix it? Can it be fixed? Could it lead to scizophrenia?
This is a very strong intellectual woman, mentally sharp and witty. How does this sort of thing happen?
To our knowledge, she had no head trauma, but I think she may have been on some sort of ante-depressant.....i think?
Please, if you could help with answers or even a link where I could find something......her family too have no idea how to deal with this.

Thank you
Sharon
