HCG Levels Dropped from 26 to 19

by Jem75, May 16, 2008 06:53PM
Well, DR called with blood test results and not great news. Looks like my levels are dropping - when they should be rising. I am totally confused - no idea why this happened. And I just had a miscarriage in Nov. Technically I am still "pregnant" but the DR said it doesn't look good. They want me to continue on progesterone suppositories and see what happens by next week. So I have to live in limbo for a week - and then either I will get my period between now and then or see the DR for more tests - with a likely grim outcome. But she said I won't likely have to have a D/C this time, since there is not much in there. On Wed I started progesterone (based on history of having weak prog. levels) and then everything just dropped. I wonder what research there is on progesterone having a negative impact? I don't mean to concern anyone - it works wonders for many - but with me, maybe there was a chemical backfire?

Has this happened to anyone? This is such a bummer. I was really hoping for good news. And a friend just told me your chances of miscarrying go up after 2. But then again, I hear stories of women having mulitple miscarriages and having healthy kids.  So I will hope for the best.

Im so sorry to here your news.  A lot  of the time with miscarriages no one knows why they happen - it just one of those horrible things.

Do you see a regular doctor or an OBGYN?  It might be a good idea to see an OBGYN if you haven't already and have them  run some standard tests and checks on you to make there isnt a medical reason for the MC's.

I'm really sorry to hear you're going through this (again)... I had a m/c back in November too.  My numbers hadn't been doubling like they were supposed to and finally at 7 weeks the doctor confirmed that the fetus/embryo had stopped growing.  Each week that went by I was in that same limbo you're in right now... waiting for the test results, but knowing the outcome was likely grim... it's heartwrenching.  What your friend told you about your chances going up after 2 m/c's... I don't think that's true.  I had been going to a fertility specialist and after my m/c he told me that they won't even bother doing testing until you've had at least 3 m/c's b/c so often the m/c is just a sort of fluke thing.  There was just a chromosomal glitch somewhere and you're body knew it... so it couldn't continue developing the baby.  Even having 2 doesn't increase your chances of having another one.  I don't remember the actual statistic, but I was shocked to hear how common m/c are in perfectly healthy women.

Either way, I wish you the best of luck.
