Getting off of lexapro after four years

by mellybelly, May 16, 2008 07:44PM
I have been off of lexapro for about a month now. I initially got off of it to switch to cymbalta. I took the cymbalta for three weeks and decided to stop all together. I am doing this while under a physicians care, but he doesn't seem to be interested in answering any of my questions. So, I was just wondering how long will this take? I feel terrible. I am dizzy and disoriented and weak and nausiated. I can barely get through my day to day routines. I shouldn't be addicted or dependent on the cymbalta since i only took it for three weeks, so i am thinking i am feeling this way because of the lexapro. Either way, please just tell me what I can do to feel better or how much longer I have to go through this. I don't know if I can make it. I am so tempted to pop a cymbalta and take the easy way out. But, I know one day i will have to go through this. Please any information will help

I am not familiar with Lexapro or Cymbalta.  But any psychiatric medication should be tapered, gradually reduced over time.

What was your medication dose ?  How long were you on Lexapro ?

You may be experiencing withdrawals, the symptoms you describe are very common, coming off of psych meds.  Cold turkey is not advisable.  It's best to consult with your doc, whom can provide you the best advice as to, what you need to do from this point.

Withdrawals differ for everyone, some people get over them quickly and some people have them quite a bit longer.  Until you can visit your doc, just do your best to relax, and ride out the storm.
