Retina tear (+ high myopia)

by Kuryous, May 17, 2008 02:32AM
I was told by my doctor that I had a small tear in my retina in my left eye. I only went to see the doctor because I thought I thought I was seeing more floaters than I usually did. A week later I went to a suggested hospital and had laser surgery done to 'scab' the hole. But this was onyl a week before I was planning on moving and flying to another country. It wasn't a trip that could be postponed, so even though the doctor said i need to have the hole  checked two weeks after the surgery, I couldn't do that. Is there a possibility that the syrgery did not work and that the holeis still there? And are there any possible ways to stop the retina tearing getting worse? I have high myopia about 700-800 degrees and I see quite a lot of floaters. But my main concern is that in the eye that they did the surgery, I am seeing (I think it's blue-ish) light a bit like water in a pool on a sunny day near the bottom. I can't look straight at it, but it's there, and I told the doctor, but he said that he could see 'nothing wrong, perhaps it was just a light caused by the laser temporarily'. But it has been about nearly 5 months since then, and I am still seeing it occasionally. Do those count as flashes? They don't flash, their just.. light, but they're kind of moving. What could the light possibly be? Do I need to worry about it?

Yes you need to worry. Yes you need to see a eye MD ophthalmologist in your new location. Yes holes can be incompletely "scabbed" (I prefered sealed or welded)) shut. Holes can also be closed with freezing Cryopexy.
