Blood in Urine

Hello doctor,
I am 34 years old.
I found blood drops after I passed urine couple of months back. For the first time I ignored, but it occured second time after three weeks. I used to get some pain during that time of passing the urine. I get pain only during that couple of mins. All other days, I am fine and never seen blood in urine.

I visited my family doctor and she suggested blood test, urine test and ultra sound. after these tests, she felt that it could be uretritis as she did not see any specific serious problem.I underwent 10 days of antibiotic course during March 08.

To let you know, my urine test identified blood in urine. But when I gave blood sample, I didnot had any pain or saw any of such symptom.

Now, the reason writing to you is: today, my urine is in pink color and I went through different websites to know is this some thing very serious.

It is looking like every thing is going back to the square one. Do I need to go for further treatments?

Appreciate your comments
Regards,

Hello - this is exactly what happened to me and in my case two tumors were found in my bladder. My biopsy report came back and it indicated that I had Cancer of the Bladder. Do not ignore this, yes, I believe it is serious if it keeps coming back. I was told it could have been a urinary track infection, kiddney stones or cancer. unfortunately, mine was the cancer. Do not delay, schedule a visit to your urologist! Regards, Tom

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Yes, I think you should seek further medical help.

Blood in the urine can arise from many different causes, in your age group is could include infections, stones, kidney disease, trauma, malignancy, among other causes.  Given that you have multiple episodes, the standard workup for blood in urine consists of three tests.  1.  An xray of your kidney, cat scan is the most preferred as it is a more detailed exam than ultrasound.  2.  cystoscopy - an office procedure where a urologist looks into your bladder through a tiny camera.  3.  urine test to rule out infection and cytology to look for abnormal cells.

These three tests can identify most reasons for bleeding and rule out any serious reasons that may require further treatment.  I would suggest seeing a urologist for these reasons.
