glom filt rate/carbon dioxide total related?

by joycek, May 18, 2008 08:35AM
I've been experiencing pain in my back under my ribs for about a week - also felt like a bladder infection was coming on so I saw the doctor. I happened to have some blood tests run the previous week by my ob/gyn, which my general MD hasn't seen yet, but I just got the results in the mail and I'm wondering if any of this is related to the pain. My glom filt rate was 54 and my carbon dixide total is 19. I am a 48 year old, female, 133 lbs (seem to have lost about 5 lbs in the last week). The pain happened about 3 weeks ago but I didn't think much about (it went away after 5 days) and when it came back this time I noticed that I had symptoms similar to bladder infection. My general MD has me on antiobotic in case of kidney infection and I'm going back this week for follow-up. Had a ct-scan for kidney stones/abdominal & chest x-ray yesterday - no results yet. He found an irregular heart-beat while I was in his office, did an EKG and had me wear a halter two days ago - again, will get results this week. He's also prescribed Atenolol for the irregular hearbeat (which if it's just stress he said would help). Now I'm wondering after seeing the glom filt rate/carbon dioxide levels if that could be related to my pain in my upper back and it is kidney related? Is there anything else that he should be looking at? Should I be seeing a specialist instead?
