clear cell cervical cancer

by derek1707, May 18, 2008 06:41PM
my wife was disgnosed with clear cell cervical cancer in December, since when she has undergone a course of radiotherapy, with complimentary low dose chemo to promote the effectiveness of the radio. We have just had first consultations post treatment, and it seems that whilst the cervical tumor has reduced, there is migration to the upper vagina and possibly the bladder (suggested by initial MRI). She has an examination next week, with possible PET scan to follow.
From the doctor's reaction at this point, it seems they suspect that the cancer has spread to the bladder, and possibly is moving to the lymph nodes.
What stage of the cancer would this suggest? (the tumor was about 5-6cm at the time of initial diagnosis)
It seems that radical surgery gives us the best prognosis in terms of survival likeyhood, but I am getting the impression that they suspect the cancer is too far advanced for that to be viable.
I'm hoping to get some info/opinion on prognosis, and the likely effect of chemo as a primary treatment, specifically for a clear cell strain.
My wife is 37 and otherwise healthy.
Any insights would be most gratefully received - many thanks!
