Recent Prostate exam revealed a nodule

by ndles_sumr, May 19, 2008 01:12AM
My recent physical revealed a nodule on my prostate. Not too large but not small he said.  I completed all the normal lab work and waiting for results.  Tuesday i see a urologist.  At that time he is to tell me my options.  I am just beginning to research the topic.  What could i expect on tuesday?

Hi,

I think the first thing you need to establish is your risk for the disease, some of the risk factors include family history and African American ethnicity. This would have a bearing as to how guarded is the approach for your case.

A discussion on the benefits and harms of prostate cancer screening is also in order. Most men seem to think that screening is always beneficial. Screening for prostate cancer has not shown a conclusive survival benefit (unlike screening for cervical cancer and breast cancer), but some men do choose to undergo the procedure as an earlier detection of disease may present with more options.

Stay positive.

Thanks for the input.  My blood work came back great.  Actually .75 on the PSA.
The urologist confirmed the nodule is present.  I am planning on a biopsy on friday to put this whole thing to rest for now.
