What do you do when you don't know what to do

by vetteohead, May 19, 2008 11:16AM
I went through chemo a couple of years ago and since I have found that my energy, motivation, thought processes and concentration have suffered dramatically. Prior to treatment I was subject to a case of the blues every now and then and usually job related or home issues. Lately thought its like the life is leaking out of me and I can't stop the leak. Doctors have tried effexor, lexapro, cymbalta, and three to four others of this type of drug. The result is always headache (severe) no sleep and if I do I have horrible nightmares, sweating all the time, no energy, deeper depression and no desire to do anything. Kids are being neglected. I have pushed myself to exercise but impossible. My doctor recommended walking. I walked every day for four months and at the end I felt the same way. I am so tired of forcing myself to live life. I just want to lay down a quit. Has anyone had this problem and found an honest to goodness solution. PS I talk to God about this every night and that's what keeps me going so far.

Hi,

I don't have any expert advice but have you tried CBT as the core treatment and meds as a support to that? It's all ok that medications have an ability to change the chemistry, and that walking does too, but counseling teaches us how to. I haven't had cancer but is has been in the family.

Having cancer must be a bit of a pressure with all that it brings of treatments and expectations...
