Ladies help me with this question *urgent*

by sameerab, May 20, 2008 10:02AM
Ok my sister is 32 she is very overwieght and had a heart attack last summer...well she is now pregnant 20 weeks and she has sooo many medical issues she has full blown eclampsia, kidney failure, and a heart disease..my question is about her baby whats the chances of the baby surviving his heart rate is 93 bpm...im not sure whats normal at that stage but the doctor says the baby is not getting enough blood flow so he put her on blood thinners and some different kind of pills for her kidney.i should also mention she lost her last baby at 7 months pregnant so she doesnt know how to feel with this baby..what is the normal heart rate for a 5month fetus

Wow, I hope everything works out for your sister and the baby....The heart beat should be in the 100's like 150's......The kidney failure is not anything to take lightly.....

I'm sorry.. It should not go below 100, really. It doesn't mean damage has already been done, if they can bring it back up and restore blood flow to the baby then there is a chance the circumstances could improve.. But it's not looking too good right now. Normally with a HR that low, they would perform an emergency C-section as the baby is having it's health compromised in utero..But this obviously is not an option at only 20 weeks.. I don't really know what else to say except I hope that she starts getting better, soon.

yea she is not really getting her hopes up..i feel bad but i would rather have my sister if thats sounds harsh she has been through this all ready the dr said she would have a c-section at 28 weeks so i dont know what else to say ....thanks for responding ladies =)

yeah it doest sound good. a fetal heartrate is supposed to be 120-180/170. and anything under 120 is not good. im sorry

No problem and no, that's not harsh. What I would suggest, if she is wanting a baby or was previously ttc, is no matter what the outcome of THIS pregnancy, just be there to support her the best you can, and if you're able, you should try to motivate her and be her crutch to bettering herself and her health and help her make steps to getting healthier.. It would benefit her so much, and you wouldn't have to be scared for her life.. And she would have better chances at a successful pregnancy and being happy with herself.
Just a thought. And goodluck, best wishes.

yea problem is she has been overweight most of her life and we have been trying to get her to loose weight for yearsssssssss ive actually tried signing her up at the gym but she just doesn't seem to want to change her ways..she all ready have a 12 year old and at this point she has to want to make a change for her own benefit..i stand by her with whatever but its just hard to sit back and watch all of this the doctor told her she should give her heart a year after her heart attack to have a baby but she didn't listen...
