Should I get my bone density tested and vitamin deficiencies tested

by SMR420, May 20, 2008 10:51AM
Hi, I have been diagnosed celiac for almost 2 months and only starting to feel different recently - my blood tests were over 120 and the biopsy came back positive for celiac.  I am only recently starting to feel I have more energy, not by much though, and I just had an episode attack this weekend and I have been really careful about what I eat.  Should I be getting a bone density done to see if I have osteoporosis and should I also be getting tested to see about the vitamins A,E,K,D?  I am 33 and the gastroenterologist said that I am a 'high risk celiac' which I am not too sure what he means by that either, and I also have proctitis as well, my health has been declining for a long time already and would like to be on the road to recovery!  Any help would be great...

Hi,

I was reading through your post (my doctors currently wondering whether or not I have the disease).. and noticed that you mentioned something about an attack. What exactly do you mean by that? I had some sort of attack this weekend, it was horrendously painful.. right below my diaphragm area near the top part of the abdomen. When you say you had an attack do you mean you had a really painful attack? I'm really sorry, I'm so confused with all of this new information that my family doctor is throwing at me and I'm experiencing all of these different things, it's really very scary.

You are gluten free now right?  If you are concerned over the vitamin levels you should get them checked out, don't forget B12 it is commonly low along with K and D.  But if you are gluten free now, a good multi-vitamin may be all you need to get the levels back up.  If they are very low, you may need shots/more potent options.
