Syphilis???

by orvon, May 20, 2008 12:29PM
Hello, I have had this sore around the base of my penis for about 10 weeks now. It is about 1cm around, red, raised, slightly firm to touch. I had unprotected sex with a Canadian woman in mid january, the sore showed up 9 weeks later. It has not healed and I have no signs of secondary syphilis whatsoever. I know the syphilis chanchre usually shows up 3-4 weeks after infection and usually heals within 6 weeks but I still have a feeling this is Syphilis. Should I be concerned that this is syphilis or could it be something else? If so, what?

I doubt this is syphilis and suspect it is some other sort of process.  Nine weeks would be a most unusual interval between exposure and the appearance of a syphilitic chancre.  If you are worried about syphilis go get a syphilis blood test, it will be positive if this is syphilis.  You would be better off however going to see a dermatologist who can examine you and diagnose what is really going on.  I hope this helps.  You have little to worry about.  EWH
