Dose my 6 years old son need any Orthoptics care?

by Iampainter, May 21, 2008 08:30AM
My son is 6 years and 4 months old. He has cylindrical power in both eyes with right -2.50 and left with -2.25. he is wearing glasses constantly for last 5 months. He has no noticeble eye distortion. I want to know is he suffering from  Amblyopia? dose he need any Orthoptics care?

Amblyopia refers to wether he seens normally with glasses. So I can't answer your question. It depends on how he reads the chart. No there is very little role for orthoptics in either amblyopia or strabismus problems.

My son read the chart as 20/30 for right and 20/40 for left eye. Is it bilateral amblyopia ? dose he need any patches?

Again can't tell. Needs to know glasses RX when tested and what he saw with them.

Thanks for your kind attention.
Here I'm trying  to give the information, actually I don't know what is RX. I just copy directly from his prescription as i have given by doctor for my son's glasses. :
R -2.50 cyl 180 degree ->.  L -2.25 cyl 180 degree ->
IPD : 50mm
after one month check up (he constantly wear those glasses during this period) :
REV unaided 6/9p,N6
LEV unaided 6/12p,N6
Slit Lamp Bio-microscopy BE : WNL
Fundus BE : FOH
that's all I found from his prescription. don't know is it enough information or not but this is all I have.

You still have not provided the information needed which is Best Corrected Visual Acuity (with glasses) or as the say "aided"   unaided means no glasses.

Just call the eye doctors office:

1. What is the corrected visual acuity in each eye?
2. Does my child have amblyopia.
3. Does it need treated  (note amblyopia is very difficulty to treat at age 6)
