child repeatedly hurting self

by cacks028, May 21, 2008 08:36AM
hi, i am a mum of an almost 3 y/o and he has global development delay and sensory problems, i have found recently that if he hurts himself at all he repeats the act over and over again! eg. if he nips his fingers in the door, falls on his hands or bumps his head he repeats it over and over again and gets very distressed when i stop him! he doesnt cry and sometimes im not sure how long he's been doing it before i get to stop him. has anyone else experienced this with their child or know how i can help him to stop?

i should perhaps mention that he has no speech and really only understands his own name and the word 'no'. so he cant tell me what is wrong
