Suicide Attempt

by susan1972, May 21, 2008 09:05AM
A family member attempted suicide in November and had a lack of oxygen to the brain for an undetermined amount of time. She is in a long term care facility and is aware of all family members, can carry on normal conversation, and has no problem understanding questions or being able to respond to them. She has not been able to walk since the attempt and is still going through PT and OT. She has intention tremors and just had an exam with a Neurologist who said she may have Parkinsons. Can you get Parkinsons from a lack of oxygen to the brain? She is not able to perform any of her activities of daily living and needs help with everything from feeding to using the bathroom. She is not able to walk, even with assistance and her toes are pointed, hands are curled. How long will it take to know when she has hit a plateau? She made progress about 1 month after the incident happened in November, but since then, seems to be going backwards, especially with tension in her lower extremities and in her arms.
