Still having abnormal symptoms 8weeks PP

by Jessica3001, May 21, 2008 02:26PM
I gave birth 8 weeks ago.  Normal vaginal delivery.  However, I was induced at 37 weeks due to PIH which progressed to HELLP syndrome within hours after giving birth.  I had to be sent home on BP meds due to continuing high BP readings, and was on for 3 weeks. Since then My BP has been better, but still experiencing high Diastolic readings (in the 80's and 90's). Since this whole thing I have had a chronic feeling of pressure in my head, with daily mild headaches.  It feels as though I have a bad head cold that won't go away.  I also have been experiencing eye floaters along with the feeling that I haven't slept in days.  Blood work came back normal as well as CT scan.  Had both done 2 weeks ago.  Can you explain what could be the continuing cause of these symptoms?

Hello,

Probably the same process: vascular endothelial damage (damage to the lining of blood vessels) as a result of the PIH/HELLP.  I can only tell you what I'd tell one of my own patients.  If you have a headache that doesn't improve with tylenol or rest, present for an evaluation.  It sounds like you have had a thorough work up, but sometimes blood pressure complications of pregnancy last well into the postpartum period, so close follow up and presenting for unrelenting or return of symptoms is critical.  l hope you begin to feel better soon.

And congrats on the birth.

Best regards,

Dr. Downing
