by MBSolano, May 22, 2008 08:14AM
I was just diagniosed with a complex ovarian cyst with blood in it.  I am very concered and scared.  What are the chances this is ovarian cancer?  I am 38 years old, and not menopausal.

did they use the term 'hemorrhagic cyst'?
if so this is a cyst women make and is totally benign.
it is a simple cyst that bleeds into itself - hence becoming 'complex' which usually just means 'not simply fluid filled only' .  they can get quite large however and sometimes need surgical removal but typically they resolve after a few cycles.
are they plannign to do follow up u/s?

Hi ,
a complex cyst containing blood could be an endometrioma , do you have endometriosis? . If a cyst is complex it means that it has walls or compartments containing both fluid and solid matter. Most cysts are benign 95% so try not to worry , the chances that all will be ok are good !!! .

Best wishes Angie

I did have an u/s.  That is how the doctor determined it was a cyst and not a uterian fibriod.  I am going back for a surgical consult on Wednesday.  I just got really worried, and feel a little better now, but I won't be 100% until I know what is going on.  Thank you for your help and input

I agree w/ silver/gold .........could also be that type of cyst.
Hemorrhagic cysts and endometriomas look very similar on u/s and the way they were able to tell the difference w/me is that mine didn't go away (endometriomas don't, hemorrhagics most often do) and there was evidence of adenomyosis on the uterus picked up by u/s.
The word "complex" scares the **&%)+*&% out of many but this is a term used to define any cyst that isn't completely fluid nor completely solid and not a specific term defining malignancy.

You are right about getting the **&$%%%**  scared out of you.  I feel like I have been crying for days, but getting over it.  I am just concerned with 3 children, 13, 10, and 7, that I want to be around to see grow up.  You know how your mind gets away from you!
