Low Total Thyroxine T4/Normal TSH

by Shell111, May 22, 2008 10:41AM
Following is a series of thyroid test results of mine over the last 5 months:

1/11/08
TSH            0.63
Total T4       4.9
T3 Uptake    38.4
Started on 25mcg levothyroxine
Felt slightly better for a few weeks

3/11/08
TSH            0.64
Total T4       5.2
Increased dose to 50mcg levothyroxine
After about 2 weeks feeling more fatigued, more weight gain, heart racing, appetite increase, constipation with diarrhea, eyes red and burning like fire....

5/15/08
TSH              0.52
Total T4         5.4
Still on 50 mcg levothyroxine

Should I be on medication at all?   I am considering going back down to 25 mcg.  If this is a familiar situation for anyone out there I would appreciate any and all feedback!!!!!!!
Thanks!

Looking at the TSH, the med doesn't seem necessary. Who diagnosed you?

The Total t4 is an outdated test and should be replaced with the free t4- a very reliable way to measure thryoid hormone circulating in the blood.

Ask for repeat tests using the free t4 instead..
