pcos

I have PCOS.  I posted a comment to my other question (menstration and) but I think that perhaps only new questions are answered.  I had one more small question.   If I want to get pregnant is Aygestin a good drug to take, or will I need to switch drugs to something else before I want to get pregnant.  If I need to switch, How long before I get pregnant, immediatly or months before to get it out of my system?  Should I ask for drug specifically?  any recommendations for pregnancy with PCOS where you need a high dose of progesteron to regulate your periods.  Utrogestan didn't work for me.

Hello,

Aygestin is fine to use while you are not trying to conceive.  It will provide the endometrial protection needed.  When you decide you want to begin attempts at conception you can do so without a clearing period (that is to say you can begin attempts immediately after stopping it).  Your success at conceiving will have to do with whether you begin to ovulate.  I would suggest meeting with your ob/gyn for a pre-conception counseling visit prior to making attempts at conception.

Best regards,

Dr. Downing
