Dribbling caused by holding

by Timsen, May 22, 2008 02:40PM
I'm a 20 year old male and I had the bad habit of holding my urine way too long when I was younger. For several years now (+_ 5) I'm experiencing drops of urine leaking after going to the bathroom (even after milking). I also feel that I have to go more frequently than other people. I also often have a dull pain on the left side under the lowest ribs, although I'm not sure this has anything to with it. I've got used to it by now, but it is holding me back in life. Now my question: is there anything that can be done about this or is it too late?

Hi.

Holding the urine is not advisable as this may lead to urinary tract infections. Dribbling of urine may suggest an incontinence and an associated pain may point towards the presence of an infection. The pain may also point towards the presence of a full bladder.

Do you still hold back on urination?

I suggest you seek consult with your urologist as this may require further evaluation. A baseline urinalysis and urine culture may be suggested. Also, a scan of the kidneys, ureter and bladder may also help determine the involvement of underlying structures.
