What next?

As many of you know, I have Still's disease.  I am in my third week of steroid therapy, at first it seemed like it was working and then it failed.  I went back to the Dr and had to do a steroid blast, double up for five days and slowly taper down.  I am on my last day of the double dose and yesterday was so brutally painful, I ended up calling the Dr, crying and begging for something stronger than ibuprofen.  I was given Tylenol 3, it helped some but this arthritis is taking its toll on me!  My wrists are affected and my knuckles feel like they are fusing together and it is so hard to type.  It is also affecting my ankles, knees and hips and walking has been difficult since last July but now it feels like everytime I take a step my ankles feel like they are shattering and my knees are popping and cracking.  I don't know what to do about that.  Is it time to get a wheelchair for those really bad days?  I am just so tired of this.

Love to All,

Ada

Sorry that you are in so much pain.  I know you do not want to take anything too strong but is there another form of treatment that you can try.  If the pain is effecting your quality of life then I would think some of the side effects would be worth risking to elviate the amount of pain your in and get your life back.  As you know I am new to all of this and I have not started the MTX yet like my dr. wanted, still waiting to hear about my blood results.  But in your case you seem to be in horrible pain and that takes its toll on you.  What if they tried a low dose of a different type of med.  High doses of steroids come with their own set of risks and its not working so maybe something different might be the answer.  Hope you get some relief soon.
