dark brown bleeding early pregnancy

i tested positive for pregnancy on 2nd of may. i experienced some slight bleeding shortly after so doc reffered me for u/s two weeks ago, baby was too small to see. re scanned today, roughly seven weeks pregnant but sonographer only saw a sac and 'yolk' inside. surely i should be far enough gone to see something?  the bleeding has got heavier and maintains a very dark brown colour which signifies old blood. could it be a possibility that the foetus has jus stopped growing? This has happened to me beforewith several m/c despite three several beautiful children( though with pregnancy problems) and am concerned history may be repeating itself. have a rescan next week but am seeking some information in the meantime. thank you for your time.

Unfortunately, you won't have more definitive information until a week with the repeat scan.  At that point, I'd think a visible fetal pole and heart beat should be seen.  Until then you should remain hopeful.

Sorry, but it doesn't look good.  A seven week scan typically reveals a heart beat, as well as a 'grain of rice'.  At 8 weeks, arm and leg buds are evident.  The u/s combined w/the brown spotting make a cause for concern.  I would hope for the best, and prepare for the worst in this case.  Take care....
