Heart Palpitations

by bd21, May 23, 2008 08:43PM
I was in an auto accident more than 2 months ago, and took Celebrex (for about 3-4 days) along with other meds until I developed a severe but acute case of hypertension and heart palpitations.  I immediately discontinued all of the meds and appeared to be O.K. for the next few weeks.  After being assured by my doctor that the Celebrex did not cause the hypertension and palpitations I resumed taking it a couple of weeks later for persistent back pain and headache due to the accident.  I took only one dose and my hypertension and palpitations immediately returned.  I immediately discontinued the Celebrex for good, however my (new) physician prescribed a beta-blocker (metoprolol 50mg) for the hypertension and palpitations.  I have been on the med for about a month.  My hypertension is  now well under control (for the past 2 weeks), but my palpitations have recently returned/worsened (my heart rate has remained low, but my heart is pounding).  This return/worsening of the palpitations started about 5 days after starting a low dose of Zoloft (for anxiety and depression).  My doctor does not think the Zoloft has caused the palpitations but attributes it to my anxiety.  I am not so sure, as I was feeling better before I took the Zoloft.  I discontinued the Zoloft anyways about 2 days ago, but the palpitations are still there.  I have difficulty sleeping the past 3-4 nights due the palpitations.  I have not yet seen a cardiologist, but think I need to (I have only seen a family practice physician and a neurologist).  I am really confused and don't know which way to turn.  If anyone has had a similar experience or can share some insight, I would greatly appreciate it.
