CT head on 5mth old

by vg1274, May 24, 2008 12:30AM
Hello, my 5 mth old baby has positional plagiography ( flat head )...which is getting better with changing sides while sleeping...my peads referred us to a neurosurgeon for an opinion.....who said every thing is fine , there is no need for an helmet but we will do a CT just to be sure........

A CT was done and we were told nothin abt the radiation risk ,....after coming home i searched on the net and found out that it sholud be avoided as far as possible...and the younger the baby more is the sensitivity...........I am sooo worried abt my baby...haven;t slept for 2 nights... the doc could have easily avoided  it.......why did she unnessesarily expose my baby to so much of radition when it was not needed.

know I can't do ant thing now....but please tell me about the risks and consequenses of this not at all needed exposure.

Thanks

vg,  are you sure the CT scan wasn't needed?  Doctors will often say everything looks good but let's order some tests.  Which means,  things don't look good,  let's order some tests.

As I understand it,  radiation from CT scans are minimal - and although they do post some level of risk,  it's a minimal risk.

Best wishes.

I found this link - it looks pretty comprehensive and fair.
