Lump under mastectomy scar

by AuntFeef, May 24, 2008 06:21AM
Modified radical mastectomy done in 9/08. Felt lump under mastectomy scar and had FNA which made lump disappear and showed fatty nectrotic tissue. Two months later, another lump is felt, approx 1cm in size, hard to the touch and up against the chest wall. Pain felt if press too hard. Question is: could I get a recurrance so soon after treatment? Finished four cycles of A/C, four cycles of taxol in Feb. 08, and 33 rads ending in 4/08. Thank you-I'm really worried about this.

Hi,

It is possible for cancer to recur even though you have just completed primary treatment. Some cases may even progress during the time that the chemotherapy is ongoing.

Don’t you mean 9/07 rather than 9/08? I’m trying to establish a proper time line.

Another thing to consider is the extent of disease and the lines of tumor free margins from surgery. Not everyone is recommended to get radiation. Hence, you are likely to have a higher-risk for a recurrence at the operative site compared with other women who have undergone a mastectomy.

Best to have yourself examined and discuss your chances for the recurrence with your doctor.

Stay positive.
