One pupil dilated more than other

by gina9942, May 24, 2008 01:40PM

On Monday I had a c-section, I came home from the hospital on Thursday, last night I looked in the mirror and noticed that one pupil was a noticeable size bigger than the other, it still dilates and stuff, and sometimes it will be the same size and other times its bigger, so I went right to the ER cause I was terrified, they did a cat scan and said everything looked okay, but its still like that and I am kinda freaking out, I am terrified something is wrong. I have no headaches, blurred vision or any of that, just the dilated pupil, any insight would be wonderful, just not to scary, cause i am terrified as it is, also looking at the baby it looks like she might have the same thing. Someone please help me, i am going crazy, I cant stop crying. Also I havent had a full nights rest since Saturday night because I was nervous about the surgery and then because its impossible to sleep in a hospital. Please help me...

Stop going crazy. The C section should not cause you to have a dilated pupil.  It would be very unlikely for the c section to cause your baby to have a dilated pupil. (one side).

If there are no other problems with your sight or general health and the problem continues see an Eye MD after you're home and have your strength back. The most common cause of your problem would be for something that can dilate the eye to have gotten in the eye (such as Visine, neosynephrine).

Certain types of migraine can dilate the eye at times.

Discuss this with your OB and the baby's pediatrician.

So even though its not happening all the time it could be something got in my eye? I remember after the surgery my right eye was very itchy and i was scratching it like crazy, I didnt notice the dilation in the hospital but only after I came home. And when I did see it i thought i was having or had a stroke or a blood clot. Now I have a minor headache on the other side of my head but I also think that can be from lack of sleep. Also while in the hospital I had a headache on the right side of my head and I was taking tylenol but it wasnt helping it all, but I also thought that maybe it was from lack of sleep the headache as opposed to anything else. I am very nervous and anxious and I dont know what to do. The CT last night said everything was okay and I am trying to relax but its hard. Thank you for helping you have no idea how much I appreciate it.
