Please Help

by puglovernkellogg, May 26, 2008 02:12PM
I am a 32 year old female with a host of problems. I have severe joint, muscle and nerve pain. I have severe morning stiffness and I have recurrent fevers, absesses, high blood pressure, and get sick all the time. If I am around someone who has a cold I get pnemonia. I can not use my hands very much without severe pain and swelling. I have had xrays on both hands and wrists that showed normal, I had a bone scan that showed seperation of joints in my shoulders. I have spinal stenosis in my neck and degenerative disc disease in my lower back with herniated discs. I am having a cardiac stress test next week because of cardiomegaly that showed up on chest exray and abnormal EKG. I have very high blood pressure on 3 medicines for it and resting pulse of 116.
Sed Rate 59
WBC 17
C-Reactive Protien- High
Vitamin D low at 17
Gastrin Levels are high at 145
ANA was normal
Immonglobulins were normal

Any ideas? Thank you.

Are you seeing a rheumatologist?  Those test results indicate that if you do not have one, you should get one.  Are you on any medications for these problems, besides the blood pressure meds?

I am on ibprofrin, cymbalta, loratab, and flexeril. None of which are helping me too much at all. I have an appointment in August to see a Rhematologist. I saw a Rhematologist PA in Seattle a year ago and she did not know what was wrong with me so I then saw another rhematologist in Spokane who did not exam me, look at any of my blood tests, nor did she order any test results so now I am going to go see yet another one in August. I am so sick of these doctors!

I know what you mean.  It can be a very frustrating search for the "right" doctor, but you have to keep trying.  You nailed a sign of a rheumy to avoid - not looking at test results and not doing a complete physical exam.  I would add that they need to take a very complete medical history.  Once I got to my current rheumy I was blown away by the difference.  He wanted to know how my mom's pregnancy went, and started my health record there.  Even growing pains were note worthy!  I have several symptoms and test results in common with you.  3 of my dx are rheumatoid arthritis, spondylitis and sjogrens, but I have a long list of others.
The thing about autoimmune diseases is they are difficult cases and frequently you have more than 1 thing going on.
I would suggest looking at local support groups for various autoimmune problems and finding out which rheumy those folks recommend and which ones they suggest you avoid.  I know that my search was greatly assisted by the fibromyalgia support group I started when that was my dx.  I never believed that fms was all that was going on.  Turned out I was right.
Hang in here!

Hi thank you so much for your help.  I also have sensitivity to sun light and get strange rashes when exposed to the sun.  If you dont mind what did they diagnose you with?

HI, I have never posted on the auto immune boards.. But after reading your post I thought I should. I have all of your symptoms, including the labs. My sedrate runs in the 100's at times. My new Rhumy is thinking that I have Vasculitus. Not here to scare you but I am 33 and have had problems for years and I know its a long road...
Feel free to email me..
