anovulation

by maggie23, May 26, 2008 09:12PM
I am 25 years old and have been TTC for the past 8 months but have only had 2 periods, both of which were extremely light and brown.  I've been doing my BBT for the past two months and it's very irregular...I'm pretty sure I am not ovulating.  I see the doctor next month and was wondering if anyone had any insight into what I should expect from the doctor.  I'm hoping to get my hormone levels tested, but what else should I look into?  I've read so many different things about anovulation and it has me a bit worried that I may never concieve.  Any advice would be great!  Thanks!

Hi Maggie-

Well, I don't have any experience with anovualtion myself, but what I am guessing is the RE will put you on Clomid to start with.  Probably do a few blood tests (these tests will need to be done on a particular day of your cycle...I think it is cycle day 17?) and possibly a couple ultrasounds before and after you are suppose to O to see if the Clomid helped you produce more follicles (fluid filled sacks that contain the eggs...clomid helps you produce these and helps you get your ovulation on track.) Clomid is usually the first things doctors try because it is inexpensive and a lot of women get pregnant with just that simple pill!

I have a suggestion...I have been seeing a chiropractor.  I went this past friday for the first time.  I had been researching infertility and found a LOT of info on Chiropractic care for infertility as well as acupuncture.  Anyway, I went, and he was very honest...he told me it isn't a cure, or he couldn't promise me it would help, but chiro. specialize in your spine....your spine contains all your nerves which are wired (for lack of a better word!) to your brain.  Your brain/pituatary gland produces the hormone that triggers ovulation.  If you are out of whack (again, for lack of a better term!) those things are not going to happen!  So I went, he did an awesome scan of my back....found my "hot spots" which was the base of my skull...my neck pretty much and my lower back.  My pelvis was also out of position.  He adjusted me and wants to see me back next friday to see how I hold.  He told me that he has had several patients over the years get pregnant after just a few adjustments....or a couple months, just by getting everything back in line.  But his best example was about a girl who was about 24 years old, had only had her period a couple times, like you, and he adjusted her three times, she got her period, came in for another regular adjustment and was sick.  He asked her if she had taken a pregnancy test and she said no.  He adjusted her and ordered her to do so, and she was pregnant.  She wasn't planning on getting pregnant, but with her period coming regularly, she became pretty fertile and got pregnant!

I don't want to get your hopes up, but do some homework on it.  Google "anovulation and chiropractors".  If this month is another BFN I am holding off for a month to see if he can do anything for me.  He said he can't say for sure of course, but with the way my body was, it was a good possibility it could be preventing me from getting pregnant.....makes sense to me.  I will give it a try!

Good luck to you and let me know if I can be of any help to you!

Oh and I suggest asking questions when you call and find a chiropractor.  Ask if there are people that have or do go there for these reasons.  Find a supportive one....and like I said, google it...it is something that has been proven!

thanks a lot for your advice.  From reading some other posts I think clomid might be a good option to try.  I will definetly look into a chiropractor....I'll try anything!  Thanks again.

My periods were just like yours, and i never got them every month.  The Dr put me on clomid and on the third round of it 50mg i got pregnant.  We also had been trying for about 8 months.  So don't worry theres pills out there to make you ovulate! Good Luck.

I had total annovulation, my body wasnt producing enough estrogen or progesterone.I did not have a period for 18 months. In order to induce a cycle they did combination of estrogen first then added progesterone to produce flow. Clomid had not worked when I was getting a cycle 5 yrs ago so we started with IUI. Unfortunately I overstimulate even on a mininum of 27 follistim having too many follicles so after 5 cancelled cycles we did IVF and I am now 16 1/2 weeks pregnant .Please PM if you have any more questions.
