Repeat Biopsy reveals no cancer

by joojo, May 26, 2008 10:52PM
Hello:

In late 2005, I was diagnosed with low grade PCa, GS 6+6. I was told that it's very small and not immediately life threatening and hence I had time to make a careful treatment decision. Meantime I decided to monitor my PSA and even did an MRI. MRI turned out nothing significant. In late 2007, I finally decided that the time has come to make a decision. The doctors at a reputable hospital in my area decided that another Biopsy may be in order since it's been a while since my original procedure. I was ready to deal with this menace once and for all.
You can therefore imagine my my surprise when the latest biopsy came back absolutely negative - no cancer found!
I didn't know what to make of this. Even after telling me no cancer found, the doctors were still telling me to seek treatment - more confusion. From what I have read and obtained through conversation with other doctors, I have gathered that 1) It's possible the initial diagnosis was wrong 2) it's possible this latest biopsy missed the cancer 3) the results of this latest biopsy indicates that even if the cancer was there 2 years ago, it probably hasn't changed much.

To put the matter to rest, I am scheduled for another biopsy in July.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Hi,

Are you sure about the information you have?

The Gleason score cannot be 6+6, it has a maximum score of 5+5.

Repeating the biopsy is a bit odd, unless there is a doubt with the previous one. IF the cancer is small, then the biopsy would actually not hit it, and you’ll receive a non-diagnostic report (did the report actually contain prostatic tissue? Or only muscle elements)

What is the PSA pattern like after 2005?
