Do I have depression

by unsurewhat2do2, May 27, 2008 11:27AM
I just recently had a baby (6months ago) and about 2 months ago i started feeling not like myself. I'm sad and mad for no reason and it seems like nothing can cheer me up. I haven't had any suicidal thoughts or thoughts about harming myself or anyone else but I do have severe mood swings and even the smallest things can set me off and put me in a bad mood for the whole day. I just got back from a vacation thinking that would help but it hasn't. I have trouble sleeping most nights and I have no energy and all i want to do is sleep. I don't feel like going out any more and I don't want to talk to any body on the phone or in person. I have started exercising reguarly but I don't really eat that well because I don't have time. I'm planning a wedding and taking care of a six month old and working full time. I'm not sure if i'm just overwhelmed and that's my problem or if it's something more server. Is there anything i can do on my own or should I see a doctor and get meds?

It could very well be post-partum depression. A lot of women get this after having a baby. It's because your body has gone through a huge chemical change from pregnancy to not being pregnant anymore. It can take awhile to adjust back to normal.
I think it's a good idea to see your doctor. You might benefit from some medication for a short time. I wish you well, and congratulations on your new baby!
