corneal transplant dilation

My father had a second corneal transplant 6 months ago, ( his second, his first one
a year earlier was rejected) His surgeon says his eye is looking good, but my dad still
cannot see very well with the eye. Now the doctor wants to do dilation in the eye.
COuld you tell me what the dilation would be for, or what it could show? thanks
