Post mitral valve surgery problem

by stooth, May 28, 2008 02:20AM
Hi
I raised a question 2 days back about the heart beat problem after the mitral valve replacement surgery and the maze surgery done for my mom.
http://www.medhelp.org/posts/show/528208?post_id=post_2955553
As per the reports now, the upper chamber is beating at a rate of around 300 per minute and the lower chamber is beating at the rate of 50-65 per minute at rest. Yesterday a cardioversion was suggested to solve the problem. However, today it was suggested to go for a single chamber pacemaker for the lower chamber. Once the single chamber pacemaker is planted it is suggested to go for some medicines to lower the rate for the upper chamber.
In this case, which option should we go for?
If we go for the above two options, which option of the above two is safest and best. I am quite confused with the reports now as my mom is in icu for the past 7 days and doctors are saying that they'll keep her in icu monitoring her for another 5-6 days and then will plan to plant the pacemaker. Can anyone please help me out.
Thanks
