PCOS HELP

by abby911, May 28, 2008 07:27PM
Hi i have polycystic ovarian syndrome. I can not take the pill due to my side effects. I have acne and it has been a problem for years i have irregular periods and my weight is up and down. I want to know if using metphormin to treat acne is safe and effective. Has anyone else tried this as a method? I'm not trying to have a baby but i am trying to get my hormones working properly.

The metformin helps with regulating insulin levels which will help with weight loss. It benifits other things as well. My doc will put me another med called Aldactone which will hopefully help me grow my hair back. Now I was on Depo-provera - which apparently is bad for PCOS, so we are waiting for it to get out of system before we move on. Hope fully it will be out so the blood test are correct :) I go in the begining of June.

Oh Back to your question- metforim took a while to clear up my face, it has helped me loose weight, and we are still waiting for the depo to get out of my system so I can hope fully have regular (cross my fingers) periods.   :)

Giid luck- I hope this helps

Hi so let me get this right... your weight got better from it ans your face did too but it took a while. Are you trying to have a baby or are you taking it for the same reason as me? And did PCOS cause you to lose your hair? Or is that a different story? I will keep you in my prayers hun. thanks for your help
