Crying too hard / blood in mouth

i have been dealing with depression for 8 years and am on meds and am have my depression pretty well under control.
within the past week i have been very depressed for no real reason and today while my friend was here i got off the phone with my mom and started crying very heavily. i had problems breathing and it was a very painful cry just from the inner pain that it caused. i had a pillow pushed against my face that after a while i realized was catching my tears, snot and drool. when i pulled my face back i noticed there was some blood on my pillow and i said "what the-- i have a bloody nose!" and my friend commented that it wasnt my nose, that it was on my lip. i felt my lip and there was more blood. i went to the bathroom to look and there was a good amount of blood in my mouth, covering my toungue and i could tell it was in my teeth and all. i gargled some salt water to wash it out and hopefully clean anything up that i could but its about 6 hours later and im now having a sore throat. my friend said i broke a blood vessel in my throat and that she has done this before but i couldnt find anything on the internet about this. the same friend said wait to go to the doctor until it happens again. another friend said go anyways just to get it checked on.
anyone know why this happened?
