Unknown sleep disorder

by RoeRoe1, May 28, 2008 11:45PM
When I was 14 I had my first attack, it was like I couldn't move, I heard a humming and my whole body felt like electricity was running through it.  it happened so on about once every month or two, by the time i hit 17 it occured more often like 2 nights a week to 18 now where it happens for a week straight and with everytime something new and more scary happens and they only happen when i lay down and try to fall asleep.
The last time it happened the pain in the rib cage to the shoulder area started and i rolled over to try to prevent it, but nomatter what i did i couldnt stop it, finally i relaxed and let it take its course, but with it my hands and feet went numb then my bigger limbs then the pins and needle feeling spread started from the back of my head down to my toes, then my heart started beating so fast my whole body was rocking yet my breathing was long deap breaths, my eyes stayed open and i was aware of my surroundings, but that time my hearing was just a loud buzzing making my head feel like it was vibrating and the last thing i remembered was lookin at the ceiling and then my head involuntarily start turning to the wall behind me and then i blacked out for the night.  its so bad that i am so afraid to lay on my right side causing pains in my legs, back and left arm due to not switchin positions.

I've noticed that the pain which is like a pins and needles x 100 starts off in my right rib cage where i do have 1 abnormal rib that sticks out.  there is no pain with touch only when i lay on it too long anticipating sleep i get the pain which spreads from the rib cage to the point between my neck and shoulder. Close to the spots that with a hard touch sends me into spasms that last for minutes, they are between my neck and shoulder, the top of my foot and under my rib cage.  Another thing only when i take after noon naps or fall asleep for a short period of time, i wake up suddenly with a racing heart that shakes my whole body for no reason.

Also since this has been happening i've had an increase in virtigo attacks especially when standing from a seated position with this every thing turns a redish black and voices seem far away and i usually have to grab the nearest thing to prevent falling over, i have fell and blacked out for a short time with these, I also hear pretty good but there's always a humming noise.  i do go through periods which could be days to months of headaches to migranes to just and annoying pain in my head and its never localized.

I went to my doctor because of my headaches and told her about my expierence and she laughed and told me i was dreaming, and i was getting tension headaches not migranes,  I turned to the internet only to find out "I have" MS, fibrosis, sleep paralysis, insomnia and epilepsy...
i have heard the whole not being able to move while sleeping, but i am fully awake and aware of whats going on, my eyes stay open i can move them i just cant move anything else and no one else ever descriped the pain and pins and needles feeling, since this has been happening i'm noticing more and more issues that never happened before, the hearing, virtigo, cramps and muscle twitches in my legs, arms and neck, overly tiredness or not being tired at all, i even fully lost my appetite, things i used to love now make my stomach turn, i go days without eating and with this i lost 20 pounds in the past 2 months and the only reason its not more is because im always thirsty and craving things like exotic fruit and juice.. things i never really ate before.  I also get chest pains when these episodes happen and pains in my sides with breathing and a racing heart that makes it feel like its hard to breath while doing normal activities

Hi RoeRoe1, how are you? Hope you are able to get fair sleep these days? Have you consulted a sleep doctor and have got done the sleep study? It seems you are under stress due to sleep deprivation for long time and frequently suffering with probable sleep terror and sleep paralysis episodes with associated anxiety and night cramps. Stress due to hard and havoc day at college/work, going to bed late night, excessive caffeine, alcohol and smoking can be the cause. Stress either physical or mental does trigger them. Just relax and do morning-evening walk, stretches, have nutritious diet with lot of water. Having hot shower and listening to soft music before going to bed can be soothing to mind and body, which may be of some help. Mild dose of Alprax also can be tried. Before you go on to medications, it is better to consult a neurologist and a sleep specialist for evaluation and investigation. Take care and share your thoughts.
